B-r-t-nat *

Also Bur-k.

A city in the Crimea mentioned in the letter of the Khazar King Joseph, which he attributed to the Western possessions of the Khaganate.

Artamonov in one place «History of the khazars» agrees this city with Balaklava.

The city, according to the King, was subject to the Khagan and paid him tribute, for which the khazars had an obligation to protect its inhabitants.

This statement is not entirely consistent with other extant written and archaeological sources.
