Karachar of Khazaria (на ПРОЗА.РУ)

The city of Khazaria, according to the map created by karaite geographers.

Among the turks, the word «karachar» meant black yar. In the early tatars Karakur meant Black hero of Russian origin.

This city became a frequent guest of Russian fairy tales and epics.

Karachar is most often identified with Murom of the 10th century, the birthplace of Ilya Muromets, as well as with Karacharov near Moscow in the late 16th century, now an industrial district of Moscow.

There are several localities in Siberia with a similar base.
