Final Zentangle Strip Drawing with revision

First Zentangle Strip drawing before revision

This is my Zentangle strip drawing. There isn't a setting in this piece as all the boxes are mostly abstract. For the dark side, I used sharpie and pen to make it super dark. I also used a variety of pencils to make darker or lighter drawings. The first and second zentangle box on the left were based off of my mandala tapestry hanging in my room. I've always thought the design was pretty and that inspired two of my boxes. The fourth one from the left was inspired when I was doodling in global studies class and drawing circles all over my paper just like this. The rest were off the spot with no inspiration. There are lots of lines featured in most of my zentangles as well which is a technique I picked up while drawing this since I found different ways to incorporate lines in different ways. But, I feel that there are no composition rules in my work. Originally, I had a strip that was; in my opinion; poor work. The strip didn't go from dark to light smoothly and there weren't as many techniques and I just wasn't happy with it. So, I decided to revise it a bit by adding more detail, changing boxes and making the dark to light transition more better. I provided a photo of my old strip and new strip above aswell. This piece doesn't relate to my life or really have a story. I still feel like the dark to light transition could've been more smoother by making the 2nd and 3 box from the left more darker. I'm happy with how this turned out and I'm happy that I incorporated lines in most of my zentangle box's but none were the same.

Negative Space Drawing

This is my Negative Space drawing, made with two leaves which is the positive space. For materials, I used a sharpie to outline the leaves, and colored pencil to add color to my negative space. I decided to use lots of colors because I just couldn't pick one, so I did the rainbow. In my piece, I used circles for the background because I didn't want my background to be simple. I also thought the background would pop more if there was texture. One thing that I changed, was I was going to have the rainbow go vertical but, there is a part on my drawing where its all positive space, so I changed it to horizontal. The story behind this piece in my opinion is a bit funny. I don't really like showing my artwork to anyone; especially my family; so when I'm drawing, typically my mom is over my shoulder watching me. One thing about my mom is that she has really bad trypophobia, she can't look at ANYTHING. I really like making circles, I'm not sure why. They are just super fun to draw, so I drew them knowing that my mom wouldn't be able to watch me or even peek at my artwork. This drawing doesn't really relate to my life, although I do have a glass slate in my room that's rainbow so it somewhat slightly connects to my life you could say? I'm super happy with how this turned out, but I wish my sharpie lines were a bit more straight and clean, especially around the border I made.
