Childhood Bedroom #12

Sustained Investigation #12

Color Pencil and Marker

This is my 12th Sustained Investigation where I drew my old childhood bedroom. My inquiry question is, "How can I use color and texture to concentrate on the emotions of landscapes?" For this project, I wanted to stick with mainly pinks and bright colors to resemble that younger girl vibe, as well as shine a positive light with those brighter colors. When I was younger, I spent almost all my time in my bedroom. My siblings and I had a very big age difference, and I basically felt like an only child, so I'd always play with myself all alone in my room. I remember always pretending to be a fairy or mermaid, something magical which is why I wanted to create that fairytale vibe, and decided to add a spiral around my bed, also adding glitter for an extra glimmer aspect. I replicated my favorite bright pink comforter, and hanging decorations to also hint to my audience that this is a kids room. My room was also yellow, which I think of as a happy color, and I made it extra bright in the drawing to show that feeling because as a child, I was always very happy. I loved my new transformed room that my parents decorated, I loved the curtains on top of my bed, and I loved how much pink there was. I've been focusing on my linework for my most recent sustained investigations to make my work a bit more realistic, and proportional, and I felt I did a good job with the sharp lines I have made already. I wish that I was able to add some personal things such as some specific toys in my room or possibly my favorite stuffed animals in order to add more personality, but I was pretty stuck on how to incorporate them so I ended up not. If I was able to revise this project, I'd definitely add more of a composition, possibly adding some tiaras and dolls to make the room look less plain.
