Sgraffito Tile

This is my Sgraffito Tile I made by using hardened clay and glaze as well as carving tools. For my piece, I decided to go with an abstract theme because I love making random patterns that come to mind, so that's exactly what I did during this process. I first divided the piece into 6 parts and created random patterns on each part. This was kind of inspired by my beautiful oops that I made at the beginning of the year where I divided the paper into a few different sections and created random abstract patterns in each one of them. I chose to use black glaze because I thought it would help contrast the carved-out pieces better. Last year, I wasn't really fond of using negative space by carving things out, but I think this project turned out great and I actually enjoyed it. I'm not experienced with sgraffito tile carving so it was something new and I felt that while I was continuing, I was getting better. Two pieces from my tile broke off before being finished in the kiln, and I was going to just let it go and leave them off since this was an abstract piece anyways but then glued the pieces back together later.
