September 11

This is my fourth Sustained Investigation where I decided to paint a scene from the tragedy on September 11, 2001. I wanted to paint the two twin towers and the smoke coming out because there are so many imagines that were captured at this moment. I didn't want to just have the twin towers though, so I decided to add in some headlines from certain articles that were published the day after. When I was going into this project, I actually had no idea what I wanted to make. I just knew I wanted to stay with relevant events that happened not too long ago, specifically after 2000, and my friend and I immediately thought about 9/11 because it happened at the beginning of the decade and it will never be forgotten. I originally wanted to just make the painting look like an actual newspaper article, but then decided to just add certain boxes with the newspaper aspect. I used watercolor for the whole painting and went in with pen and sharpie for the newspaper parts. I think if I were to continue with this painting, I'd try to make the blue background more neat and even, and possibly add one of the planes in the background to give it more of a composition.
