Duck Stamp

Sunset Swans

This is my Duck Stamp of two trumpeter swans in water during a sunset that is 9x12. This relates to my life because I enjoy making sunsets and one was included in my artwork. I used mostly acrylic paint for everything and also some water color pencils for detail. I used lots of layers to make sure that the paints were not sheer, and I tried to add texture to the swans to show their feathers. I believe my project evolved because at first, I wanted to use colored pencils for the whole piece, but I didn't want any white space showing so I thought watercolor. I used watercolor for my sunset and realized that the paint was too transparent, so I decided to acrylic paint because I love using acrylic and also because the paint would be opaque enough. I also originally thought of only having one swan, but after painting one, I added another to the water wasn't too empty. My next steps could be to add more detail to the swans to make them not look cartoon-y. I also could add the reflection of the sunset to the water to make it look more realistic.
