Observational Still Life

Colored Pencil

This is my Observational Still Life drawing. When we were assigned this project, I was sitting at my desk, and I saw a lot of stuff hung up on my walls, so I decided I wanted to draw some of those figures just because my eyes would only have to look up in front of me. I drew a pass I got from a concert, one of my masks, and a Chinese envelope. I started off with a sketch, and later went in with color. I didn't want to use a lot of marker like I had before because i wanted to add more detail to the concert pass, and i felt that using colored pencil would be best. I couldn't find a perfect color for the mask in colored pencil form, so I used marker for that part only. I then focused on the shadows from the objects and drew those. Since these were up on my wall, the background was very plain. I didn't want it to just be one solid color in the back, so I got a few more colored pencils and filled the background in. Because this was an observational still life, I tried to focus on the little details on each of the items and spent most of my time on the concert pass. The background was of blue and white clouds, so I tried my best to represent that with shading. I think my next steps could be to just try and fill in everything better. Because I used colored pencil, there is still a lot of white left behind, so I would try my best to fill everything in more.
