Prince Blue

Color Pencil x Oil Pastel
This is my third revision of an old work of my dog, prince blue. My original piece was made in my freshman year of high school in the class foundations of art, and before I made a piece of artwork of my dog made with charcoal and ink. It was a bigger paper and on a different material, but I felt it was messy and incomplete. I knew I wanted to recreate a new artwork of my dog but with different materials in order to add more detail. I also wanted to add color compared to my last one. In order to create my best work, I knew I needed to spend a lot of time on this drawing so I made my paper size smaller in order to have more time on detail. Freshman year I learned a grid method to grid your paper and grid your reference paper and focus on each square to capture all the details. Since this would be a super detailed-oriented drawing, I went with this method. For my past few artworks, I have been using acrylic paint and so for my last project, I wanted to switch it up. I've used colored pencils in the past but only oil pastel once or twice my whole high school career. Oil pastels were used to bring in more color and the colored pencil helped with detail. I paid a lot of attention to the highlights and shadows of the picture I was referencing from and I am very happy with the results. I spent a lot of time on this drawing because I wanted to take my time and not rush to create the best work possible. Compared to the original work, I think my techniques have improved a lot and I am satisfied with the results.
