We the Community

This is my Inclusive community artwork size 9x12 of four cartoon characters, two of them disabled, popping in color as everything else is dark. I wrote the phrase “We The Community” as community is in color to correspond with the colored people. This relates to my life because I’m always doodling little mandala patterns on my homework which I showed in my artwork. I usually use acrylic paint when painting an artwork, but I decided to use colored pencils instead because I sort of wanted to give the artwork a kid feel since the characters were kids. I also don’t use colored pencil often so I wanted to use it and step away from acrylic paint for once. In my artwork, I used a blending technique as the top starts off a dark black and fades into a lighter black once it gets to the middle, then it fades into the colors of the rainbow near the people. I also incorporated pattern around the word “Community.” This wasn’t my original piece, however I just wasn’t happy with my old artwork at all. I didn’t have a solid idea so once I finished the steps I wanted to do, I was blank. I decided to restart with a whole new idea which I like better. I believe my new piece is simple, yet it has a deep meaning. I tried to show that a community isn’t a community without people, which is why everyone is dark except for them. My next steps could’ve been deepening the color so they could've popped more.
