Roe VS Wade
9x15
Watercolor
This is my 7th Sustained Investigation following my prompt, how can I explore politics through my art. I used watercolor and pen for this whole piece. I decided to focus on the topic of abortion because the choice to terminate a pregnancy is something I support. I know it's a very controversial topic, but I wanted to express this idea. The composition of this piece is a court in the background with protesters signs in front of it. I thought about also adding protesters holding the signs, but to me, the signs themselves have a bigger message than the people themselves and I wanted to highlight those specific sayings that are on them. The whole painting is almost all black and white, except for a few signs which follow along the pro-choice beliefs. I wanted those signs and messages to be seen and I thought if they were painted with bright colors, thats where eyes would be brought to first. It also gives the other signs an irrelevant feeling which is what I wanted. My friends mentioned the Roe VS Wade case, so I decided to add that at the top of the painting to really outline my topic more. I'm actually really happy with how this turned out, and I think I got my message across very clearly. If I were to add on, I think Id try to show more of a message by either adding more signs or some symbols.
