Sustained Investigation 14

97 Percent

10x14

Acrylic

This is my 14th Sustained Investigation inspired by the statistic made in the UK based on a survey where 97% of woman had claimed they were sexually assaulted. On top of this, one was brutally murdered while just walking home, and that inspired the sign "She was just walking home." I used acrylic paint for this whole piece and also added some gold leaf accents in the background which was my first time using this material, but I wanted to cover up some of that empty blank space and I thought glitters and gold leaf would compliment the bright colors from the leaves and flowers well. The flowers and leaves were inspired by the mural made in the UK based on the woman who was murdered and a lot of individuals brought many flowers and signs so based on photos I saw, I noticed a lot of pretty bright flowers. I do admit this piece took a lot of work because I added a lot of detail to the leaves and flowers because I thought being precise would make everything look clean and overall give the presentation a better look. In the past, I have been rushing a little with my work which makes the art look a little messy. I really love all the colors in this piece and how they all work together. I wove in the 97% statistic within the flowers just to add that important percentage in my artwork but not taking away from the whole painting overall. I think the colors in the percent signs with the colors in the flowers correlate well and it all goes well together. I don't think theres anything extra I would add and I don't see anything I'd like to change because overall, I am really happy with how this project turned out.
