New Vision of an Old Work

Madame Vice President v2

12 x 18

Acrylic Paint

This is my New Vision of an Old Work based on my 9th Sustained Investigation. In my old work, I created a piece using watercolor of a little girl standing in front of a mirror, looking at Kamala Harris standing as well. I thought the composition overall was strong, but I didn't like the look of the watercolor. After doing a few more paintings with watercolor, I realized watercolor is not a material I like using. I felt I made my best work with acrylic paint because I was able to add more highlights, shadows, and details overall. So, for my revision, I decided to use acrylic paint while still focusing on Vice President Kamala Harris. I was inspired by Kehinde Wild and his style of portraits where he has a figure in the middle and leaves and flowers as the background. I was also inspired by a past sustained investigation where I had a similar background. Although I was inspired by the artist for the background, I made it my own by using more flowers than leaves and having a different art style. I made pink and purple flowers to compliment the suit Kamala is wearing. The stance she is in is the same as my old work, but the composition overall is different. Because I used acrylic paint, I was able to add more detail and I spent a lot of time on this piece overall to make sure I was happy with it. I wanted to create the best outcome and I focused all my time on making sure everything came out the way I wanted.
