Ubuntu Installation Settings

Introduction

Here are some of my Ubuntu installation settings. See also: **Create Disc Image**, Driver Installation Settings, Operating System Settings, Operating System Installation Times, Operating System Requirements, Operating System Startup Times.

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) (GNOME 2)

Where are you?

Region: Europe

Time Zone: Finland Time

Keyboard layout

Finland: Finland

Prepare disk space (depends, one or multiple OSs)

(*) Install them side by side, choosing between them each startup: (drag the slider)

Conventional hard drive (120 GB):

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (/dev/sda1) 60.3 GB

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 59.7 GB

SSD hard drive (32 GB):

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (/dev/sda1) 20.0 GB

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 12.0 GB

( ) Erase and use the entire disk

[SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) - 120.0 GB ATA WDC WD1200BEVE-0] (conventional hard drive)

[SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) - 32.0 GB ATA TS32GSSD25-M] (SSD hard drive)

The following partitions are going to be formatted: (Linux only installation)

partition #1 SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) as ext4

partition #5 SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) as swap

After initial installation and updates:

Hardware Drivers (HP laptop):

Broadcom B43 wireless driver

Software modem (SmartLink modem)

Notes

After installation in text-only view press Ctrl+j to restart system.

If you installed Linux by resizing Windows partition: use chkdsk (should happen automatically when starting Windows) before doing anything else.

Results

HP laptop: OK.

Wings desktop computer: Ubuntu 10.04 doesn't understand DisplayPort and later DVI.
