Introduction

Here are some of my Java settings. See also: Programs, Operating Systems, Website Settings, Software, Interesting Programs, My computers.

Test Java

Verify Java Version: http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Java 7 Plugin (OS X 10.8)

Location (so you know where to remove it): Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin (info).

Java Control Panel (Java 8 Update 25) (OS X 10.10)

Security

[x] Enable Java content in the browser

Security Level: High (Danske Bank website didn't work with "Very High" setting in Java 7 in OS X 10.8, 7/2013)

Debugging

[x] Enable tracing (helps me see if there is a problem with a website or Java)

[x] Enable logging

[x] Show applet lifecycle exceptions

Java console

(*) Show console (First reason: to remind me Java is enabled. Second reason: because Apple wanted to get rid of Java in 2012, I couldn't access Java settings any other way. Third reason: switch between Java console and Safari when using bank website to pay bills (10/2012).)

Miscellaneous

(*) Place Java icon in system tray (To remind me Java is enabled.)

Comments: if Java doesn't work correctly, clear cache for Java.

Java Preferences 14 (OS X 10.7)

Comments: settings for Java 6 Standard Edition (by Oracle), but Apple has its own Java edition.
