Sheep are captured from the mainland and used for shearing and breeding. Sheep who have spent many generations in captivity are bred to continually grow wool without shedding it and for size, resulting in much larger eweri than those found naturally. There is also an adverse effect, as through the generations they lose motivation and maybe even some intelligence, and their wool's properties and their magic grows duller. This results in there being a fairly high demand for 'fresh' eweri.
Biology
Reproduction
Eweri have external sex organs, though they are hidden behind their wool almost all of the time until the act itself. They are fertile year-round, and have live births after a 6-7 month pregnancy.
Attractive physical qualities for many sheep include their horn shape and size, along with a neat wool coat. Color is also a personal preference. Headbutting contests between males are often performed to try and show off to and impress females.
Eweri are monogamous, staying with a mated pair for life once chosen from another family group. They will set off on their own to begin raising their own family.
Diet
Eweri must maintain a strictly herbivorous diet, from grass, leaves or fruits and vegetables. The exact varieties can vary from area to area.
Green and brown sheep can rapidly set up fertile earth and grow local plants for food. A nomadic herd passing through an area often results in it becoming extremely green and fertile for a while after their journey due to their magic lingering around, which farmers and foragers in the area are very grateful for.
Magic and Abilities
Eweri as a species have very diverse elemental magic, with each individual having a specialty denoted by the color of their wool coat.
Wool colors and their corresponding magical element are as follows:
Red and orange are masters over fire.
Creation and manipulation are two different skills.
The deeper the red, the better at manipulating, quenching and feeding already existing fires they are.
The brighter the orange, the better at creating fire out of the air they are. Caution advised.
Yellow can control electricity.
Can create electricity at will, but cannot control lightning from storms directly nor summon them. Some can control the area lightning can strike, however, making them good at preventative measures.
Tend to be VERY SHAGGY compared to other colors.
They make good lightning rods. Their shagginess tends to prevent any damage to them, luckily. It even supercharges their magic for a little bit when they are struck by an electrical charge.
Blue wool can control water.
The lighter their coat, the more attuned they are to ice compared to the liquid form. They can freeze water, objects or generally make places colder.
Deeper blues can control water more directly, and even pull water out of the air.
Their wool is even spongier and more absorbent than regular wool. Sheep often make tents out of discarded blue wool for good, quick anti-rain tents.
Green are adept at controlling plant life.
While they can't make things grow instantaneously, they are able to accelerate the growing process.
Can manipulate already-grown plants, giving them ample power over vines and even tree roots.
Very good at controlled plant growth, and can create very ornate designs from them alone.
Brown can manipulate the earth.
Can make the ground flat to a certain extent.
Rock throwing, mud creation and all earth manipulation entails.
White wool can control light.
Can generate light from themselves, even mark others with it. Great for visibility!
Black is shadows and darkness.
Gray has no elemental attunement, but their wool is hard, something akin to steel.
Very good at physical combat because of this, of course.
Additionally, It's extremely difficult for eweri to learn any magic outside of their natural attunement, though they pick up their respective schools very easily as compensation.
Culture
Eweri are, by their nature, a social species and it is generally rare to see one on their lonesome. While they're generally known for a more nomadic nature, more permanent communities of eweri aren't uncommon. Their multiple magical talents make them very good survivalists, with green and brown wooled sheep able to combine their magic to grow edible food in a relatively short amount of time. This has caused these colors to reach a high social status among most Eweri as their grown food helps greatly regardless of lifestyle. As such, these colors tend to have a lot of sway amongst their communities and beyond.
The species is generally known to be fairly peaceful and accepting of outsiders and any other species they run into, though those without prior experiences with humans are growing cautious due to them capturing other members of the species.
Legends:
The sheep who cried wolf
The one who spun us all
The golden fleece.
Acetate and farming
Eweri are a prime target to capture and turn into farm animals due to their wool. Not only is it as if pre-dyed materials are singularly used for clothing; all of them contain special properties that make them extremely desirable for practical use, ex. yellow wool makes for /very/ good conductors when used for lining.
Species migrations occur when areas grow too cold for comfort, though these migrations are part survival mechanism and part social gathering. Dozens and dozens of groups come together as one to mingle and travel, and this is where many pairings off happen.
Eweri thrive in grasslands or forests where plenty of food for them grows, and is where you can find the highest density of them. Certain families of common and adaptable color can branch out, however, such as red wooled sheep being able to withstand higher temperatures, though they must be sure to stay where they can feed effectively. They generally stay in small family groups, with one 'herd' consisting of one family. Small reunions can occur where some groups join up for a short time, however.
Eweri rarely grow taller than 4'5". Excessively tall sheep are generally viewed as freaks, a sign of tampering from outside forces.
Wool color and magic abilities are dependent on genetics. Wool is present from birth and grows continually provided the sheep is well-fed, with gradual shedding to prevent over-growing. Skin color ranges from shades of black to white, and all shades in the spectrum between.
-imp-
Eweri are an indigenous, family-focused and fairly common species from both continents. They are easily identified by the wool covering their bodies, which can be one of several colors and hints toward their magical talent.
Physical Description
Eweri are a bipedal mammalian species whose bodies are covered in varying amounts of wool, starting from the neck down and continuing to their knees on average. More or less wool growth is possible. Their heads are long and end in a snout, and their mouths contains dull teeth designed to grind up vegetables and other greens. Horns grow and outstretch from the backs of their heads in varying designs, though they tend to be used more for show rather than a practical weapon. Horns begin growing in as nubs at around age 10 regardless of gender, and generally fully grow in by the time the sheep reaches 15 or so, with males growing longer. Horn growth is considered a sign of maturity among eweri. Their skulls are thick and good for headbutting, though usually only gray wooled sheep rely on headbutts in any serious battle. Their ears are long and expressive.
