These are creatures attached to the last forest. There’s two varieties, representing night and day respectively. Despite the minor differences in appearances, they are both the same species. The separating force is the time at which they take their first breath. If it is during the hours the guardian of light is awake and ruling, they are a day creature and draw their power from the sun. If the shadow beast is awake, they draw their power from the moon. The day creatures are more offense and strength based with their magic while the night creatures are defense and healing based.
They are bound to the Twilight Forest and full breeds will die if removed from this location. It's rumored that a ciltik can ask the forest spirit to weaken this effect on them if they wish to travel, but, there is still a natural bond that draws all ciltik to their home.
Physical Description
As ciltic grow older, they grow antlers, which they shed every winter and regrow each spring. They are used to attract a life partner and for minor fights to prove their strength over another. The antlers are useful for focusing their magic energy and are also symbols of their connection to either the day or night patron they were born with a connection to. The antlers never grow very long.
Ciltik have large ears that are useful for both listening and expressing moods and feelings. While they are large and precise listening tools, their ears are not delicate. They are durable and able to filter out a lot of background chatter when needed. Their noses are also refined sensory tools that aid the children of the forest in their daily lives.
They have powerful leg muscles that help support them while standing upright. Their tail is also used for balance and support and is capable of wrapping around nearby objects with surprising dexterity. The bottoms of their hind paws are padded, but tough, allowing them to cross rough terrain without worrying about cutting their feet open. Their front paws are dexterous and used more for detailed activities than for travel. However, if they need to move faster than normal, they will run on all fours to get an extra bit of stability and speed.
Ciltik, also called the Children of the Forest are a small species of typically bipedal creatures. Their bodies are covered in a short fur that protects them from minor scratches and damage from branches and rocks in their natural forest habitat. They stand at 3' on average and weigh around 25 lb. However, there is a wide range of variations as far as size goes, so it is not unheard of for purebred Ciltik to grow to be 4' in height.
All ciltic born in the day have black sclera and colored pupils. Conversely, ciltic born during the night have colored sclera and black pupils. Night ciltik have light sensitive eyes that cannot handle strong sunlight, but, that excel at seeing in dark conditions.
Biology
The ciltik are warm blooded creatures. There is no biological difference between the day and night ciltic.
Diet
Omnivorous by nature, ciltik eat lots of nuts, berries, and insects. If they can catch other small animals, they are happy to include them in their diet. The most common small animals they catch include frogs, snakes, mice, and birds.
Reproduction
They have live births that result in one to three children on average. Gestation lasts for six months and dampens the magical powers of the mother until a month after the children are born.
Parents raise their children until they feel they are able to survive in the forest on their own, but, even then, they remain in contact with them and maintain a close family structure.
Abilities and Magic
The powers of ciltik are divided into two groups. There are the day ciltik and the night ciltik.
Day
Most day ciltik are good at energy based magic and plant manipulation and growth.
