Religion has existed since the very beginning of life on the planet. It is the worship of the gods that created the world. While all religion is based on the same core concepts, a number of species and groups focus on different points of worship. Since there are a number of gods that exist, acknowledged or not, there are a lot of different focuses someone with religious inclinations can settle on. Most people in Lith believe in and worship at least the core duo of Time and Space. Acetate has a rockier relationship with the gods thanks to quartzpike outbreak years in the past. In the current day and age, most of the human inhabited parts of Acetate are atheist or agnostic to some degree and regard the gods as fairytales.
Acknowledged or not, the gods are the core force behind building the world and maintaining it. There are a number of different domains the gods rule over. Depending on how many people pray to and worship each god, their power levels can fluctuate. A god is nothing without the support of the mortals. The effect of worshipers and belief varies from god to god.
Core Gods
The Core Gods are the creators and shapers of the world as it is known. They are the gods who set down the basic fundamentals of life and existence. Since their aspects are interwoven with the fabric of existence itself, they are the only gods that do not require belief to supply their power. Instead, they are the origin of life itself.
Space: Space is the origin of all matter.
Time: Time is the ability for life to progress forward.
Life and Death: The cycle of souls and energy that keeps the world balanced.
While Space and Time are freely worshiped on Lith, the Dark Lady has fallen into obscurity, possibly because of the more morbid connections to her field of power. Still, some species, such as the kurunea, still hold her in high regard and direct their prayers and worship to her.
Time and Space share the island of Trinity, where their capitals of religious power are united in an ancient city dedicated to the unification of the two major sources of power. A large festival is held in Trinity every year to celebrate the binding of Time and Space together in the universal fabric of life. It's a popular place for pilgrimages and even People are known to arrive at the great city to join in the festivities.
Secondary Gods
The Secondary Gods are said to be offshoots of the powers of the Core Gods.
Protection: Being safe, especially while traveling and going on journeys
Healing: Curing sicknesses, mending injuries, and warding away illness
Tertiary Gods
The Tertiary Gods draw their powers only from worshipers and what they represent.
