Man Down, One of the tem has been taken down ill! Possibly due to Leptospirosis (Which although rare can be serious and even fatal).
After returning from the session at the GB Syndicate Steve fell ill, with symptoms similar to a Flu, Abdominal Pain/Discomfort, Zero Energy, Dehydration, Blah Blah Blah.
He reported that even getting out of bed was a "Marathon Effort". Not even enough energy to get to the GP Surgery.
He later reported Back Pains, and noted his Eyes were changing colour? His Doctor is suggesting a course of Antibiotics.
Therefore can I remind all team members of the importance of good hand/ personal hygiene while out fishing. Leptospirosis and Weill's disease can be very serious and is not to be taken lightly.
It is unlikely this was contracted on this trip as there is an incubation period of 2 to 7 days.
Transmitted via animal urine and often carried by rats and other mammals canoeists and fishermen are at an increased risk, along with farmers and vets.
It is essential that team members clean their hands before eating and after handling fish. A good antibacterial hand wipe and alcohol hand gel will help reduce your risk of contracting this type of illness. There are no guarantees against contracting this illness.
The team wish Ste a speedy recovery and hope he's back on the bank real soon.
In response to Team Members Communications:
No Lyle, "if the worse does happen" You cannot "Baggsy" Ste's Bait Boat and Bivvy, this text is irresponsible, un-necessary, in bad taste, and un-sportsman like! anyway Rob has already Baggsied them along with his Korda Scales. Phil has put his name on Ste's reels and feeder rods. The rest of his kit is still up for grabs??
No Phil Leptospirosis or Cooties as you call it can not be passed from human to human so there is no need to avoid visiting neither can you catch this via a text or a phone call!
Yes Phil, avoiding drinking rats pee will lessen your chances of picking up this illness. (Mate What you do in your personal life as nothing to do with me)
No Martin your not at risk "YOU NEVER GO FISHING"!
No Rob I will not be adding this catch to the catch report as its still unclear as to where this was caught, and without seeing it netted on the bank, weighed, photographed, and witnessed it does not qualify as an actual catch!
Yes Steve your eyes do match the colour of your hair (Grey) Ps Where do you keep the key to your tackle shed?
GET WELL SOON!
The rest of you guys "WASH YOUR DIRTY DISGUSTING HANDS" and don't drink Rat Pee!
