After an influx of rain in Wales sends the river level up the past few days but has now dropped nicely for the weekend Steve goes to Arley on the Severn in persuit of sum Barble.
Steve chooses a swim up stream not far from the car park and sets up his feeder rods. The worker bee's are busy getting the last of the nector from the last of the late summer foxgloves and a Robin comes to say hello looking for any free food offerings.
The day is drizzly but soon the sun passes thro the persistent clouds. A couple of hours pass by with only a knock on one of the rods
First fish out a nice 3lb chub quickly followed by another 1.5lb on the same rod. No barbel as yet but there's still plenty of time has Steve is planning till stop after dark
The mandatory kingfisher flies upstream past the peg only to fly back down five minutes later. Steve has both rods set in the main stream opposite bank 50' apart still waiting for a barbel to take
Bang! Steve's rod doubles over and the line screams out heading downstream, a gawjus 8lb pluser and still a couple of hours till dark
The sky is blue with hardly a cloud in site, turned out a really nice late afternoon after a rainy morning. River level is perfect and im waiting for my next barbel to scream my reel π
Boom! R/H rod off again, tho time a nice 6lber that fought just has hard as the 8 pluser tbh. Its looking good for sunset
The chub are jumping, the song birds singing and pheasants im the field being very verbal. Dropping nippy but well insulated with a thick jumper π
Yay, the L/H rod gets sum of the action with a 2lb chub.... Told ya they were jumping lol
There's "smoke on the water" forming downstream at the peg called "cromwells hole" C'mom another barbel and Steve's a happy chappie π
The venue would be so tranquil if it wasn't for these Severn valley steam trains.... Lets dig up the tracks one night? LOL
"pig is getting hungry" in this water margin..... Gonna get myself a curry takeaway on the way home. Just waiting for dark for the mayhem to start to finish another great few hours fishing'
The last barbel @ 7lbs for the evening see's red from my Boruit head torch, its gone well chilly and time for home with another good days fishing under my belt.... Time for that curry π
Well done Steve!
I hope your curry was nice!
