So the very first big weekend away at Vallee Lake 1 Blangy sur Bresle France.
It was so nice to see all the boys together for the first time in a long time.
They left the comforts of home at midnight on Thursday/Friday to travel the 320 miles or so to the lake.
full of excitement and anticipation of great catches, after a meet and greet session at the lake shop, (Thanks Natalie a very nice cup of tea) and a rules/fish care brief by Ben the bailiff the lads are transported to their swims.
At the meet and greet were the two lads from Essex one of whom warned us all about his naked tendencies and what's more his mate had photographic evidence of nude lakeside poses?
These guys had pegs 8/9 this was the 6th trip to the lake for one of them.
There were also the two lads from south Wales in pegs 6/7 they had also fished Vallee before but Lake 2 which is more of a runs water.
All four of these lads were booked in for the week ahead.
Steve in Peg 10 all alone on the far side of the lake, Phil takes peg 3, Mart peg 4 so they can work together if needed as this was their first trip to France in search of big Carp.
Rob is secluded in peg 5 as requested after last years visit where he fished peg 4 with Steve in peg 3. he saw this peg and fell instantly in love with it. so this is one off the bucket list for him.
The first night was cold waking to frost covered Bivvy's and a cold day in the main. the next day was warm enough for the exhibitionists on site. (is that Berty in the buff?) The last day was colder with a Thunder storm on the last night and heavy rain.
Both Steve and Rob used the time honored tradition of keeping warm and drank large amounts of alcohol to keep the cold at bay. Oh and an hot water bottle.
The first run and "fish on" for the "Team" went to Martin on the last night just as the rain was starting, by the time he had landed it and sored out the formalities such as unhooking, pictures, fish care, weighing etc.
The rain stopped? I call that Karma.
Mind You I'm not sure he deserved such a poor photo taken by a fellow TWAT? Phil you need to PRACTICE your photography skills along with your fishing and Bivvy packing/erecting skills.
There as already been controversy over the actual weight of this fish although Martin assures me this is 35lb and a PB.
Comments can be made via the Comments and Feedback link in the Menu on the right hand side of the page.
by Monday morning and its time to leave there had been two forties caught one on peg 1 (Unknown) and 1 by the lad from Essex on his 6th trip. we only knew of four fish being taken
Rob, Phil and Steve Blank. It's character building lads!
