HOW A SINGLE SWEDISH SUBMARINE DEFEATED THE US NAVY
Despite the somewhat extreme title, it is true technology changes
and the latest non-nuclear powered modern submarines have
capabilities much to be respected and feared.

INTERNATIONAL TRADE: COMMERCE AMONG NATIONS by the International Money Fund
Nations are almost always better off when they buy and sell from one another
I showed a short piece of this article to establish the basic principles of free trade.
The whole article is short and worth reading.

THE DECEPTIVE PROMISE OF FREE TRADE | DW DOCUMENTARY
Free Trade IS an important tpic and generally a Good Thing.
But there are daunting problems.
A bit of background:
Just after World War II, when the USA was nearly 90% of the world's economic output
when the USA was very self-confident and in a position to believe it should
establish a "new world order" then the US was remarkably altruistic and self-interested
at the same time. The great fear then was that a solitary giant economy would want to
sell its surplus abroad. The rest of the world, reeling from the dislocations of the war
were of a mind to protect their re-building economies.
So the US kindly pushed for free trade.
Free Trade (Brenton Woods, GATT, WTO, etc...) did bring about an increase in global prosperity.
But just like Hans Rosling's presentations that the world HAS made progress, the benefits are broadly spread whereas the disadvantages, the losers in those changes, are acutely felt.
How to balance the competing interests is a puzzle yet to be solved, likely by messy half-measures that try to help while other measures will assist the politically important at the expense of the commonweal.
Today, the economy of China is likely as large as that of the US.
Everything manufactured seems to be made well enough and much cheaper in China.
So the current president is pushing for higher tariffs and other restraints on trade.
It is unknown if those efforts will result in trade wars that could hurt more than they help.
TO AVOID "local" POLITICS, I BELIEVE IT IS HELPFUL TO SEEK AND FIND DOCUMENTARIES FROM ELSEWHERE (NOT THE US) THAT EXAMINE FREE TRADE LESS ARGUMENTATIVELY AND PERHAPS MORE CORRECTLY.
So, here we present this important topic from the point of view of Germany, a huge exporting economy.
