10-18-17 - Special Relativity Fixed A Broken Physics System and Robert Learner news updates

Introductions/News

Lawrence Dworsky: "How Special Relativity Fixed A Broken Physics System"

Abstract: Einstein's publication of the Special Theory of Relativity in 1905 revolutionized physical thinking. Einstein did not create this theory out of abstract thought; it grew out his study of a growing list of experimental results that disagreed with the predictions of 19th century physics. This talk will review some of these predictions and how they disagreed with the experimental results. Then the assumptions and predictions of special relativity and how they "worked right" will be brought in.

Rob Lerner:

Main presentations: "Revisiting the nature of science — why trust scientists?"

&

"Embrace AI, for good"

Rob's news notes:

"Does life start early and easily on young planets?"

&

"Beyond CRISPR", "Synthetic Biology"
