Roger Lamont Presents: "Recent discoveries, Earliest Civilizations" This week will be a presentation of two recent archaelogical discoveries. The Ortiz man and Gobekli Tepe. The Ortiz man was dated from 3500BC, and the Gobekli Tepe site dates from 11500BC. The Ortiz man gives us a detailed look at how humans in southern Europe lived, and Gobekli Tepe is still being analyzed as to its purpose.

On Saturday, February 10th, we are holding an event at the primary school in El Lindero de La Petaca. Many of you will remember that we took Spanish readers to the school for the last two years. Last winter, John and Ann Caldwell and others totally refurbished the library and we installed the internet in May. During the summer, our friend and long term teacher at the school, Emma Guerra, was promoted to a government job and a new teacher was assigned to the school. The new teacher is not very responsive to gringo help, so we have not continued our program.

Our Saturday event is an opportunity to see the students, mothers and school and to assess the progress being made. Victoria’s School has continued to send their students to El Lindero each Friday to work with the campo kids. The Victoria students are helping put on a program for us that will showcase the library, internet and student talent. We are providing fruit and the mothers will have bean tortillas for us.

If interested in going, please email me ASAP. Also, respond with all drivers and cars that can go. The group will leave from La Aldea Gate at 11AM on Saturday, February 10th. We should be back about 3. Donations will be accepted for next year’s internet fee and money for Victoria’s parents to add a roof to the school playground.
