09-07-16 - Risks of Super-Intelligence

David McClintock presents:

Risks of Super-Intelligence"

A. Existential Threats – how to think of them.

I start with the a brief video that outlines a few Existential Threats.

Presented is a simple logical framework which can help us think more clearly about the consequences of super-intelligence for: normal humans, civilization and our species.

Three obvious kind of super-intelligence are:

1. A biological brain like our current brains except bio-engineered to be vastly more powerful.

2. A sufficiently detailed study of the human brain could reveal its functional parts and mechanisms well enough that one could “reverse engineer” to make some thing that works like our brains do. We may not know exactly what it is doing at any instant any more than we can slice through a human brain and tell exactly what the person was thinking of. But it should work remarkably – especially if made with semiconductor circuitry. We fly higher and faster than birds with things made of metal instead of feathers

3. A very dynamic branch of computing has brought us devices of remarkably increased power. Machines of only ten years ago bear trivial comparison with machines of today. Most folks think that is a result of Moore's Law and technological advances in the hardware. Actually, perhaps as much half the power increase is very largely due to algorithmic advances. That is at the heart of software. Changes in software can happen with breathtaking speed.
