Also, Pat Sommer's response to Robert Lerner's link on insulin resistance:
Here are some links about insulin resistance. There has been consensus for a good while now that saturated fat is the root cause.
From Wikipedia:
It is well known that insulin resistance commonly coexists with obesity.[16] Dietary fat has long been implicated as a driver of insulin resistance. Studies on animals have observed significant insulin resistance in rats after just 3 weeks on a high-fat diet (59% fat, 20% carb.)[17] Large quantities of saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated omega-6 fats all appear to be harmful to rats to some degree, compared to large amounts of starch, but saturated fat appears to be the most effective at producing IR.[18]
Especially galling is the maligning of an especially healing carb: the legume

It certainly works toward rapid weight loss (with a boomerang effect). Weight loss itself causes a drop in cholesterol, short-term; advanced cancer or heroine addiction do too.
