Ingredients:
3;4 cup shortening
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 large egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup turbinado or parkling sugar
Method:
Beat shortening at medium speed with an electric mixer until soft and creamy; gradually add brown sugar, beating well.
Add egg and molasses, mixing well.
Combine flour and next 5 ingredients; add flour mixture to shortening mixture, mixing well.
Cover; chill 2 hours.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls, and roll balls in sugar.
Place 2" inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheets.
Bake at 350° for 12-15 minutes.
Remove cookies to wire racks to cool.
Makes 4 1/2 dozen
