Our annual presentation night was held on Sunday 27th November to award the achievements of the club’s youth members throughout the year. Following the demise of the Cush Inn, who always looked after us so well, this year the event was moved to Kildangan Hall.
A very large attendance was on hand to see Kildare GAA player Mikey Conway present awards to all the Under 9s down. He followed this by presenting the medals for 2011 and 2010 to the Kildangan players on the Cúchulainn Gaels under 13 team who won the South Board league two years running.
Two important points were raised in the chairman John Nealons introduction, namely:
More participation is needed from parents and volunteers in general to assist in the coaching and mentoring of underage teams. There are now 14 underage teams in the club and the current coaches are having to manage two or more teams each year which is unsustainable. The club will support anyone who is willing to get involved in this vital role within the club.
In the present economic climate funding for the club is vital, with the Pigeon House Lotto representing our single most important source of funds.
Juvenile Chairman John Reilly emphasised the importance of physical activity in maintaining health and well-being. He stated that the single most important aim of the club is in helping all children fulfill their full potential as players. John went on to thank the parents for their ongoing commitment in getting children to games and training.
Following on from the presentations and refreshments Stuart Mullarkey was DJ for the disco. A special word of thanks to the ladies who looked after the caterings and also to Martin Higgins who supplied furniture for the event. Finally, many thanks to Mikey Conway who was very patient in signing autographs and posing for pictures.
