Match Report: U11 - Kildangan v Moorefield

By Declan McGrathUnder 11 League - Kildangan v Moorefield - 30/8/11Kildangan under 11’s put in a great performance at More O’Ferrall Park on Tuesday evening before eventually going down to visitors Moorefield.The visitors opened brightly and had two quick goals scored before Kildangan realised the game was on. The story could have been much worse but for some fine defending by Ricky Burke and Hannah White who were fighting hard to keep the Moorefield attack out. Little by little, the home team started to play to their potential and threatened the Moorefield goalmouth on a number of occasions. Eoin O’Fearghail and Lara Gilbert began to get a grip on the midfield battle and team captain Niamh Doran was winning everything that was coming her way. Niamh finally pointed for Kildangan but Moorefield replied with two late goals as the half neared the end. Oran Phelan, who gave a great performance in the Kildangan defence, drove forward and delivered a long ball to DJ O’Toole who nipped inside to score a fine goal just as the half time whistle sounded.Moorefield opened the second half with a quick point before Niamh Doran struck with two great goals for Kildangan. Ethain Rowley and Tadgh Sheerin were then in hard luck for goals when the Moorefield goalkeeper saved well. With Kildangan now dominating, DJ O’Toole scored a very good point following a great block down and clearance by Aoibheann Scully.

Another Moorefield goal was quickly cancelled out as Niamh Doran completed her hat trick with a great goal, adding a point shortly afterwards. A long clearance from Lara Gilbert then found Robert McGrath who drove through the Moorefield defence before being pulled to the ground. As the Moorefield players retreated towards goal Robert took a quick free and rattled the net to leave just two points between the sides. Moorefield mounted one final attack as the game entered the closing stages and scored a fine goal to leave it 7.2 to 5.3 in favour of the visitors.

The Kildangan players deserve great credit for putting in such a spirited performance as they fought right to the end.
