A fantastic team performance by Kildangan Nurney resulted in a 4 point win against Naas in the Division 2 Under 16 County Final. The game, played in Moorefield on Saturday was close from start to finish, Kildangan Nurney only pulling away in the final 15 minutes.
The opening score was a goal by Kildangan Nurney left corner forward Louise Scully, Naas replied with a point. Kildangan Nurney looked nervous, Naas far more lively. Another goal by Louise Scully, Naas again replied with a point, followed by a second point moments later.
Kildangan Nurney Right Corner forward Lauren Kelly went on the attack, Naas deflected the ball for a 45 to Kildangan Nurney, taken by Louise Scully, to Muireann Scully, passed back to Louise who scored a point off it-a well worked move. Another point to Louise Scully who was playing a stormer. Naas came right back into it with two goals in quick succession to leave Kildangan Nurney leading by the minimum at the half time whistle.Opening score of the second half, a point to Louise Scully, second score another Louise Scully point off a free. Muireann Scully then shot wide from a free. A Goal to Naas kept them in contention.
A 45 to Kildangan Nurney, a point the result. A great individual point to Kildangan Nurney's Kellie Griffin, who won the ball in the centre, turned, beat her marker and scored.
Final Kildangan Nurney scores was a Goal from centre back Sabrina Kennedy, followed by a point by Lauren Kelly. A Seven point deficit to Naas with clock the ticking; despite being dominant in midfield Naas were struggling for scores thanks to tenacious defending. Then a Goal to Naas, followed by last minute drama when a Naas shot was stopped on the line by Goal keeper Marie Fitzgerald. Full time score 5:09 to 5:05
A Cracking game between two very committed and determined teams. Naas could consider themselves unlucky as they had a number of chances stopped on the line by Kildangan Nurney keeper Marie Fitzgerald.
