Seniors Beat Cappagh to Claim First League Win

Kildangan claimed our first two points in Division 3 with a 1-11 to 2-7 win over Cappagh on Saturday evening in More O'Ferrall Park. A very heavy pitch due to the rain was a hindrance to both teams, but this did not stop them serving up a great, hard fought game of football.Kildangan won the first breaking ball, but it was Cappagh who got the opening score with a goal in the second minute. Ryan Moran got Kildangan's first, before Robert Hanley hit the ball off his left to narrow the gap to a point. Cappagh got the next, but Ryan Moran was hot on Cappagh heels with one of his own. Cappagh edged in front once again, before Robert Hanley converted a free after a foul on Tom Moran. The visitors extended then their lead with a goal and a point. Robert Hanley was awarded a penalty about a minute later, sending it to the back of the net. Damien Broughall followed up by scoring a free from around half way, before a foul on Padraig Casey led to another free, scored by Hanley. A 1-7 to 2-4 half-time score accurately reflected the nature of the game, but there was still a lot more to come.

Cappagh looked to be on course for their third goal shortly after the restart, but Kildangan goalkeeper Scott Broughan stemmed any risk. The home team were awarded a free about a minute later, and Hanley was once again hit the target. Eric O'Hara struck the next point in the fortieth minute, but Cappagh's reply to this was a strong one as they went on to score the next three.

Dermot Hickey got one back ten minutes from time. Casey got very close with a goal chance with hit the left post, but Ryan Moran was on hand to ensure that Kildangan's efforts didn't count for nothing by scoring a point, to claim the victory.

Both teams put in a big effort despite the heavy pitch and this showed in the scoreline at the end. Our management team of John Scanlon and Davy Anderson will be very pleased with their team's performance in this game, but the work rate in training must continue for Kildangan's trip to Rathcoffey on Sunday, with throw in at 6.00pm.
