Hard luck to our U12s as they ended their season yesterday evening after an honourable defeat by Nurney in the league final. Final score 6:07 to 4:05.
Kildangan opened the scoring with a Josh Burns point, followed by a Cormac Finnegan goal, Nurney struck back almost immediately with a point and a goal. Daniel Gilbert added the next score for Kildangan, a point from a free. Nurney then added two goals on the trot to go 3:02 to 1:02 up.
Mark O'Donovan then got on the end of a Daniel Gilbert pass to shoot low past the Nurney keeper, this was followed by a Cian Murtagh point. Rory McGrath, playing at full forward added a goal to Kildangan's tally and level the game.
Nurney added a goal and a point to leave them ahead on a score of 4:04 to 3:03 at the break.
On the resumption Nurney added a point, cancelled by an Oisin Irvin effort for Kildangan.
Nurney struck for another goal, quickly followed by a point. Josh Burns added another point to the Kildangan tally, followed by a final Rory McGrath goal. Nurney closed out the game by scoring another goal, leaving the final score 6:07 to 4:05.
Kildangan had our opportunities, particularly in the first half, however it wasn't to be our day. As always, the team kept playing right to the end of what was a fantastic game of football. Most of this group are still under 11, so hopefully next year we can go one better.
But the main victory yesterday was the spirit in which the game was played, both teams represented the ethos of our game with distinction, GIVE RESPECT, GET RESPECT. Well done to all.
