Kildangan Seniors played some of our best football of 2013 to recover from a seven point half time deficit in the Senior Championship, Wednesday evening 24th. The final scoreline of 0-17 to Leixlip's 2-09 was a fair reflection on the game as Kildangan were dominant in most areas of the field. As things stand, two wins from two leaves us in second place on the table with a guaranteed quarter final slot.
It could have been different as Kildangan looked out of sorts in the first half, recording eleven wides. Despite enjoying the lions share of possession we just could not get the ball over the bar. A goal chance also went astray.
Leixlip were dangerous on the counter attack and punished Kildangan severely with a brace of goals, a third goal effort was just pushed wide by keeper Sean Pollard.
Eric O'Hara scored the first point of the game, other first half points were by Pauric Casey and Stephen Quigley, Eric O'Hara closed the half with a second point. On the turnaround the scoreboard read 2-07 to 0-06 in favour of Leixlip. The team headed for the dressing room knowing that we had not done ourselves justice.
On the resumption Kildangan were a different team. A Stephen Quigley point from the throw in got the ball rolling. Throughout the half Kildangan chipped away at the Leixlip lead, drawing level with nine minutes remaining.
Billy Stevenson then put daylight between the teams with a fantastic individual effort. The final score of the half, a point by Pauric Casey saw us home and hosed with four minutes on the clock. Defensively we were also a lot tighter in the second half, limiting Leixlip to two points in the half.
Kildangan mixed the good with the bad, however if we can repeat the second half performance for a full game, we should give any of the remaining teams a run for their money.
Kildangan Scores; Stephen Quigley 0-7 (3 Frees), Eric O'Hara 0-3, Richard Morgan 0-2 (Both 45's), Pauric Casey 0-2, John Murray, Robbie Murray, Billy Stevenson 0-1 each.
