A strong second half performance by Kildangan Under 12s saw them overcome Ellistown on a scoreline of 6:12 to 2:06. It was a lively entertaining encounter by both teams who displayed some great pacey football, helped by sensible refereeing.
Kildangan hit the ground running and were ahead 2:01 to no score before Ellistown realised they were in a game. At the half time whistle the scoreline read 2:02 to 0:02 in favour of the home team, the goals scored by the two Cians; Murtagh and O'Dowd.
The second half opened with an Ellistown point, however Cian Murtagh was on hand to slot home another goal for Kildangan in reply. Daniel Gilbert kicked a duo of points from out the field before Mark O'Donovan found himself on the end of a move, his finish to the back of the Ellistown net gave the keeper no chance.
A fifth Kildangan goal by Daniel GIlbert added to Ellistowns woes. Mark O'Donovan struck again in the next move to make the final goal tally of six.
With the scoreline reading 6:04 to 0:3 in favour of Kildangan the game looked done and dusted.
However what followed in the last quarter was a excellent display of point kicking by Josh Burns, Daniel Gilbert and Cian Murtagh who between them kicked 8 points from various angles and distances.
With the game well and truly in the bag, Ellistown helped themselves to a brace of well taken consolation goals and were unlucky to see a third effort cleared by Kildangan keeper Sean Fitzgerald.
In what was a superb team display Daniel Gilbert stood out for his accurate point taking from play, while others to catch the eye were Josh Burns, Cian O Dowd, Mark O'Donovan, Cian Murtagh and defender Ben Keogh. The overall team display by Kildangan was top class with superb support play in attack and defence.
For Ellistown Shannon Scully, Jim Byrne, Caoimhe Whiteley, Jack Donnelly, Killian Duffy in midfield and goal scorer Jamie Scanlon. Ellistown will rue a number of missed chances, which on another day would probably have resulted in scores. Next outing is Tues Apr 15th where we host Moorefield.
