Following last week's end-to-end display, both teams had a lot to live up to in yesterday's SFL Division 4 semi-final replay. The game was played in front of a huge crowd in More O'Ferrall Park. While the evening sky was dull, the game was anything but. Round Towers signalled their intent from the start, opening the scoring with the first play. Kildangan’s Stephen Quigley responded quickly with a point of his own. Kildangan seemed nervous, and the more experienced Towers went on something of a scoring spree for the remainder of the half, clocking up 9 points. In contrast, despite several promising attacks, including a great Ryan Moran goal chance, Kildangan only managed to add two points, courtesy of Robert Hanley. The score at the break 0-9 to 0-3 in favour of the black and amber.Towers opened the scoring on the game's resumption, but points from Stephen Quigley and Bryan Adams narrowed the gap somewhat. Robert Hanley also sent over a free on the 37th minute. Towers replied strongly to score a goal and two points. The visitors had a second goal chance almost instantly, but Richard Morgan reacted quickly to stop the ball on the goal line. The opposition added another point on the 43rd minute. Four minutes passed before Kildangan responded with a point from Quigley. The home team were awarded another free, which the on-form Hanley scored. Towers were awarded a free of their own two minutes later, but sent it wide. Robert Hanley split the posts once again on the 52nd minute with a superb point. Unfortunately, it was game over for Kildangan after this as Towers added another goal and two points to end the game 2-15 to 0-10 in their favour.
While this was not an ideal way to end the league campaign, the team showed great spirit throughout the league and can use this experience as an incentive to progress in the Championship, which starts in less than two weeks against Sallins. Make sure to check back here for more details.
