Friday last proved to be a Good Friday in more ways than one for the Under 11’s as they recorded an away win to Nurney.
The home team started brightly and quickly had a point on the board. A foul on Tadhg Sheerin led to a Kildangan free which Robert McGrath rattled to the net to put Kildangan in front. Full forward Niamh Doran was in great form and hit a goal and point in quick succession to stretch the Kildangan lead. Joey O’Sullivan, Aoibhean Scully and Oran Phelan were forced to do some superb defending as Nurney tried in vain to break Kildangans grip on the game. Just before the break, Eoin O’Fearghail intercepted a Nurney attack and moved the ball quickly to Lara Gilbert who passed it on to Robert McGrath who again beat the Nurney keeper with a low shot to put Kildangan 3.2 to 0.1 ahead.
On the resumption Kildangan withstood a period of Nurney pressure thanks to great work by Oran Phelan and Josh Burns in defence and some fine saves by Lara Gilbert who had switched to goalkeeper. Daniel Gilbert proved to be a real thorn in the Nurney defence and had two goals and point scored in the first ten minutes of the second half. Some wonderful points followed from Oisin Hyland, Ben Keogh, Robert McGrath and DJ O’Toole as Kildangan pushed for the finish line. Aoibhean Scully, Stacey Bond, Tadhg Sheerin and Eoin O’Fearghail were outstanding in the second half and thwarted many Nurney attacks. Nurney scored a late goal but Robert McGrath had the final say with another Kildangan goal to leave the final score 6.6 to 1.1 to Kildangan.
Well done to all the players who put in a tremendous effort throughout the game and represented the Club so well.
Next game is at home to Castlemitchell on Saturday 29th. Details to follow.
