By Fergal GilbertOur underage amalgamation with Ballykelly, Abbey Rangers have secured a league semi-final slot against Nurney following a terrific league campaign that concluded with an emphatic win over Cappagh on Sunday. The game is provisionally fixed for Sunday 21st June, with details to be confirmed later.
Both teams were missing some players and it was tough work in the heat for both teams with no substitutes to bring on. Rangers started the scoring with a point and would do so regularly with well taken scores to lead at the half time break 0-15 to 0-1. The forwards job made a bit easier with a great defensive display
Cappagh were quickest off the mark in the second half to get scoring under way. When things settled, Rangers got back into their stride and popped over some superb long range points putting the pressure on the opposition. Again the backs and half backs worked their socks off with real determination and superb tackling to contain Cappagh. The final score was 2-25 to 3-2.
It has to be repeated - Cappagh were missing some regulars today but the Rangers performance shouldn't be underestimated. It was very easy on the eye and full credit to everyone on the field for a strong, skilful display.
