Cúchulainn Gaels V Milltown at Milltown 15 April 2012, By Declan McGrath.
Our under 14’s qualified for the Feile ‘B’ final after a hard fought win against Milltown on Sunday morning. Having beaten the same opposition in last year’s under 13 final, the Gaels went into this game confidant of a win.
The opening period did not go to plan however as Milltown dominated the game and went two points up. A Cormac O’Mahoney penalty put the Gaels one ahead and points followed from Stephen Keogh and Robert Hanley. The Gaels then got a fortunate goal when a shot for a point from Evan Halford dipped below the cross bar and into the net. Milltown replied with a late point followed by a well worked goal to leave it 2.4 to 1.3 at the break in favour of the visitors.
Milltown cut the lead to three points before a Robert McGrath free put the Gaels four up again. Daniel Cawley in the Gaels goal was twice called into action making two very good saves. As Milltown continued to press forward in search of a goal Ryan Moran was left unmarked and he punished the home team with two well taken goals. Milltown battled on but the contest was over as the Gaels won on a score line of 4:06 to 1:07.
Balyna provide the opposition in the final which will take place in St. Conleths, Newbridge on Sunday next (date, time & venue to be confirmed).
