Some recent match reports from the Under 16 Division 4 Games. Following a poor start to the league, this team have really pulled their socks up and are now comfortably mid-table. Final league game is away to Caragh on 6th April.
Cúchulainn Gaels 4:06 Kill 2:04
In an entertaining and open game played in Athgarvan on Saturday last, Cúchulainn Gaels got a well deserved win. It was Kill who started stronger and kicked over two early points against a stiff breeze. But The Gaels found their feet and got into the game with a penalty from Shane Smyth midway through the first half and tagged on a point shortly after. His midfield partner Shane Maughan then rammed home a second goal to put Cúchulainn Gaels on their way. A third goal just on the break gave Cúchulainn Gaels a seven point half time lead which they would never relinquish and while the first fifteen minutes gave Kill some hope when they tagged on a goal and two points, a Conor Hyland goal ten minutes from time sealed the points for CuChulainn Gaels. Best for Gaels were; Shane Smyth, Conor Hyland, Dan Leahy, Daryl Dunne and Jason McDonagh
Two Mile House 3:09 Cúchulainn Gaels 5:06
Played Tuesday evening, March 27th, these two teams offered up a very exciting match in Two Mile House. Conor Hyland kicked over a free after three minutes for Cúchulainn Gaels and for the next fifteen minutes Two Mile House went on a rampage with goals from Tom Berney and Rob Brassill and some well taken points. The Two Mile House midfield ran at will through the Cúchulainn Gaels defence with great reward. In the lead up to half time however, The Gaels pulled two goals back through Conor Hyland and Jack Behan to put some respectability on the half time score ; Two Mile House 3:05 Cúchulainn Gaels 2:01.
The second half saw a reversal of fortune as Cúchulainn Gaels with goals through Stuart Duffy, Jason McDonagh and Jack Behan turned the tables on TMH. From seven points down, Cúchulainn Gaels found themselves five points up by the the twentieth minute of the second half. It should be said though that some poor shooting from the TMH forward line added to the The Gaels lead. Some good points were exchanged in the final six minutes between the teams as Cúchulainn Gaels who were ably served by Jason McDonagh, Danny Leahy, Jack Behan and Alex McGuire held out to win. while Two Mile House were served best by Tom Berney, Gavin Burke and Rob McGrettan,
