The under 13’s took on near neighbours Nurney on Sunday morning at a bright and breezy Kildangan. With Kildangan fielding their own team in this competition, with just one thirteen year old, a supreme effort was required from everyone.
The visitors opened brightly scoring two goals inside the first five minutes and the signs were not good for Kildangan as Nurney were running through at will. Joseph Prendergast and Niall Callan tightened up in defence and soon Joey O’Sullivan and Robert McGrath began to get to grips with the Nurney midfield and the supply to the Kildangan forward line began to flow. Goals from Dylan Fitzgerald and Joey O’Sullivan brought Kildangan into the game and Eoin O’Fearghail pointed to put the home team ahead.
Oran Phelan was having an outstanding game at wing forward and combined well with Robert McGrath as they scored a bunch of points between them to put Kildangan in control. But Nurney refused to give in and goaled each time Kildangan seemed to be pulling away. As the goals at each end cancelled each other out, Kildangan were tagging on points and lead 5:10 to 5:01 at the break.
Another Nurney goal early in the second half was to be their final score as the home team took control. A brace of goals from Robert McGrath, another from Eoin O’Fearghaill and a cracker from Ben Keogh put the result beyond doubt as Kildangan stormed ahead. Josh Burns, Jack Kenna, Ethain Rowley and Aaron O’Connor all finished strongly as Kildangan recorded an emphatic 9:16 to 6:01 win
