In a much improved performance in round 3 of the Senior League, Kildangan came up just short against Sarsfields in Kildangan tonight; the final scoreline read 1:12 to 12 points in favour of the Newbridge side.
Kildangan were unlucky not to secure a draw at a minimum from this encounter and will be disappointed with some of their efforts, especially in the closing minutes.
Declan McGrath opened the scoring for Kildangan with a well taken point. Sarsfields came right back with the next move. Both teams were evenly matched and moving the ball well. With the scoreline reading 6 points to 7 in Sarsfields favour, disaster struck when a quick kick out resulted in an interception. One on one with the keeper, Sarsfields made no mistake in slotting the ball to the back of the Kildangan net. A further Sash point before the break left the score 1:8 to 7 points.
Kildangan cut through the Sarsfields defence on the restart, a precision pass from Ryan Moran to Stephen Quigley resulting in a point. Further points from Ryan Moran and John Miller and all of a sudden Kildangan were back in the game. Eric O'Hara added to his first half tally with a well struck point to make it 1:8 to 11 midway through the half.
Sarsfields regrouped and scored a brace of points, answered by another point from Eric O'Hara. However that was to be Kildangan's lot, as Sarsfields added one more to their tally to finish three in front; 1:12 to 12 points.
There are a lot of positives to take from the game from a Kildangan perspective; including a great second half fight back, some well worked moves in front of goal and a strong midfield performance from Thomas Moran and Pauric Casey. With eleven rounds remaining in this league there is lots to look forward to from tonight's display.
