Cúchulainn Gaels 3:06, Kilcock 6:16Cúchulainn Gaels suffered a big defeat at Raheens on Saturday evening when they went down to Kilcock in the Division 3 League Final. Having gone unbeaten throughout the League and drawn with the same opposition in the final round, the Gaels were confident of a win.
However, playing without midfielders Shane Smith and Cormac O’Mahony, the Gaels were forced to reshuffle their team before the game and the effect was obvious from early on. Kilcock used their superior physical strength to drive through the middle and had five goals scored before the half time whistle sounded. The Gaels looked lively going forward with Ryan Moran and Conor Mulholland always a threat up front but with regular centre forward Conor Hyland forced to play in the middle of the field, the Gaels were missing their danger man in attack.
As the Gaels heads dropped in the second half, Kilcock powered on to record an emphatic 6:16 to 3:06 victory which was fully deserved on the day. The loss of the midfielders should not be underestimated and the game could have taken a very different course had the Gaels been at full strength. Conor Mulholland showed great commitment to the Club coming directly from the airport to the game having returned from holiday. Conor Hyland did likewise making the return trip from the Gaelteacht in Belmullet to line out for his Club.
