Things to do before you can work at the bench

Gtalk

  • Everyone in the lab should download Gtalk and install it on their computers.

  • Based on that we can communicate very effectively. As you know I will be away much so this makes communication much easier.

Update your contact information the lab website

Lab access card PRB (Partner Research Building)

  • Get the card application form and document by request fo Prof. Ali's (including his signature) from Dr. Chung

  • Visit room 117B (building manager)

  • Acquire and activate the card

    • Order your lab coat at the same time

Lab coat

  • Go to room 117B (building manager) and submit application form (HST/MIT/ Jag team)

  • Lab coats are delivered to the 5th floor (after 3 weeks)

United States Social Security Number: SSN

  • You need this to open a bank account and to go on payroll

    • Bring your passport and a copy of your visa

  • Visit Social Security Administration SSA at North Station (T) or nearest local branch

  • (1st FL at SSA)/ Appling for the SSN (2-4weeks)

  • Keeping the Card Number/ Never lose the card (only 10 times for the rest of life)

  • Fax the SSN card to Dorothea

TB (Tuberculosis) test & Blood test (Measles/Mumps/Rubella test) & X-ray

To get your BWH ID you need to get a blood test (verify that you do not have TB). Get permission from Dorothea Juno-Johnston.

Note there is a shuttle that you can take from PRB to BWH.

    • Go to the Nancy & Elliot Comenitz Phlebotomy Center at 2nd FL (Blood test center) near BWH main entrance to get your hospital ID card.

  • Go to the Occupational health office first floor 10 Vining Street.

  • Go back 2 days later and have your TB test read. Scan and send copy of the pink paper to Dorothea.

  • Dorothea will enter you into the People Soft system

  • To get your BWH ID badge, return to the first floor of 10 Vining Street and go to the ID and Parking office

BWH Orientation for New Employees

Before you can work in the lab at the bench you need to complete this orientation.

  • This is booked by Dorothea Juno-Johnston once your have your BWH ID badge.

  • Orientation is usually held at One Brigham Circle Building at Brigham Circle station (T)

  • This will outline your responsibilities, benefits, medical insurance, access to the Partners Peoplesoft site, and your partners ID

  • Obtain your password (Password Self Service at https://myprofile.partners.org)

  • You will get your (Username & PW) or (Username & SSN) from Angela Carter at the orientation

  • Got to https://ibridge.partners.org => Peoplesoft HRMS production => Self service

  • MBTA pass enrollment (Link pass $30.00)

  • => To get Linkpass $30.00 at Security&Parking Administration room at the same building of Occ. Health)

  • => To get Charlie Card at our Medicine department after 1 month

  • eBenefit => enrollment => To choose Medical (Partners value for single)/ Dental / Vision. You have 30 days to enroll.

Harvard ID card

  • Go to Holyoke center, 1350 Massachusetts Avenue (in Harvard Service center at Harvard Square (T) station)

  • Holyoke center 9rd floor, ID card services at pin administration

  • Bring your BWH ID card (number) and Passport

  • Login to change your temporary password at http://www.pin.harvard.edu/

< Tax exemption (8233 form) for J1 visa status for 2 years>

=> After all orientations, Roy L. Sheldon will send 8233 form to you

=> Handing the 8233 form including my signature back to Roy including SSN & card scan or SSN certificate
