Journal club: Joe presented a classical paper by Steve Quack on the physics for microfludicis. It has been good discussion on this paper which helps team members to learn the fundamentals of microfluidics together. Specifically, different dimentionless numbers (i.e. Re, Petlect..capillary number) have been introduced to explain the physics behind the microfluidic phenomenon and applications.

Junshan: Present his work and expertise regarding MEM especially nano fabrication in Dalian University in China. He is obviously mastering a handful of micro/nano technologies which can be useful for the lab. He is currently seeking for potential collaboration in the lab to pursue some biological applications using his micro/nano systems.

Seila: Update the latest progress of the gradient generation paper. Reproducible gradients have been obtained using the co-flow system which fuse into the microwell array. Suggestions have been made to generalize the approach to be applicable for gradient generation with different profiles by changing the position of the outlet.
