"What the hell did they just make?! OK the aerodynamics are fine but three measly energy projectors, two heavy weapons they had lying around! Not acceptable for a Vindicator II prototype!"
-Vindicator II prototype reviewer voicing his opinion about the Sabretooth.
"This is the Striker we need not the one we deserve."
-Fleet Admiral giving their opinion about the Sabretooth

Emphasizing the workhorse aspect of the Vindicator this prototype was made by a heavy equipment manufacturer with no experience in designing Strikers. What they did have experience in was mass volume production and tough, reliable, well designed heavy machinery. Acting as a subcontractor at weapon pod manufacturing this company saw the money they could be raking in if they did make a full fledged Striker. Submitting their design the Sabretooth it was meet with initial skepticism. However a high ranking Admiral running the Vindicator II program saw the potential of fielding a mass fleet of these Vindicator prototypes. Production volumes were well beyond the required 100 units a month and some reports were returning numbers as high as 3000 units per month. Actual field testing against other prototypes showed that though it lacked the outright heavy punch of the Gun Ceptor or the fancy S.W.O.R.D.s of the Vindicator II, the maneuverability, speed and weapons created an admirable package. Easy to handle, reliable, versatile weapons, good speed and durability made this prototype hard to ignore.
