This was the Grand Alliance space fighter corps answer to the Zeus, Typhoon, and Hera class mecha. It was made with the idea that a single fighter could turn the tides of battle once engaged. This claim was maybe a little bold but the fighter that resulted was beyond the expectation of most fighter pilots. It was a very potent force to be reckoned with and in the hands of an elite crew it could bring its force to bear and then some.
Unlike most space fighters, which required a crew of 1 or 2 pilots, the Suzaku required a crew of 4. That was 1 pilot/ head gunner, 1 communication officer/ secondary gunner, 1 engineer/ missile commander, and 1 gunner for the remotes. As expected for a fighter of such power only the best crew were chosen to pilot Suzakus.
The primary weapon was a plasma cannon usually found on sector flagships. By using the slightly shortened hull of a frigate they were able to squeeze this weapon in. The Lucifer class plasma cannon was powerful enough to wipe out small fleets with a single shot. It frighteningly only needed 5 seconds to power up, unfortunately while powering this weapon no guns could be fired, only missiles and remotes. Despite this flaw the weapon more then made up for it with its pure destructive potential. Backing this weapon were 2 dreadnaught class plasma cannon and 2 250 mm Gatling guns. These were mounted on the 2 engine nacelles attached to the main body. The 250 mm Gatling were of a large enough calibre that they could rip large holes in the toughest of capital ships. The dreadnaught class cannons while not as powerful as the Lucifer but could still destroy several capital ships in one blast. Better yet they could fire at a more rapid rate of 1 shot a second. If this wasn’t enough 2 mega plasma cannons were mounted beside the Lucifer class cannons and they could destroy a capital ship in 1 blast.
The secondary armament was heavy enough to pound a small capital ship into scrap but was used for more minor threats such as opposing space fighters. The large amount of missiles the Suzaku could carry was enough to bombard a large section of space. The micro-missiles were stored under armour panels, which split along a seam and opened to reveal them. Much larger missile launchers had heavier armour panels, which opened to allow them to fire.
The 12 remotes added some final offensive punch to the already formidable power of the Suzaku. These had to have a gunner dedicated to controlling them.
The last equipment of note were 2 large overdrive boosters, which sat on top of the 150 mm Gatlings. Drawing in massive amounts of hydrogen, the boosters used the heat from the already hot running engines to start a fusion reaction. This extra energy was then fired out of the 2 main engine nacelles as well as secondary boosters underneath the main body. This added atomic boost was enough to make the Suzaku the fastest Grand Alliance space fighter.
The Suzaku was a potent fighter, which could intimidate and destroy most opposition. It had a FTL drive so it could get anywhere fast. The only drawback was that it lacked any close range fighting ability. This is the one flaw, which saw most Grand Alliance strategist favour mecha. Despite this the Suzaku will continue to be the pride of the fighter corp.
