Crossbow

“I hope that making a ton of these guys doesn’t make the higher up cut back on the cap ship budget.”

A concerned production co-ordinator at an unmanned fighter factory voicing his concerns about Crossbow production.

Speed: Mach 40

Length: 34 meters

Armour: Duratanium

Shielding: Magnetic shield unit

Reactor: 1 anti-matter, 1 cold fusion

Armament: 1 x Mega plasma cannon (mounted under front nose on turret), 2 x Viggen class plasma cannon (1 mounted on each ENABLED arm), 2 hard points for Viggen centerline weapon pod

One of the heaviest ENABLED mechas developed from project Checkmate. It was based on the Project Ares mecha Viggen. The basic engine layout as well as the main weapons was adopted from the Viggen. The equalizer mode was removed as well as the hard points and arms for the smaller weapons. The basic design was a stripped down engine with weapon design. The only extra concession was room for sensors and a shield generator. What was made was an extremely fast cap ship killer. The mega plasma cannon could destroy 1 cap ship in 1 shot, and only needed 1 second to gather the required energy. The Viggen cannons could destroy score of mechas in one blast and could slag a cap ship in a 4 second bombardment.

Despite this awesome power the Crossbow was fast enough to outrun most enemies and had the shielding of a small cap ship. It was also highly manuverable and could dogfight a medium fighter or mech. It finally had 4 bussard ram scoops to extract as much hydrogen from the environment as possible. This allowed for the Crossbow to not carry propellant tanks.

The only drawback was the limited production of this unit. The anti-matter reactor was hard for many Grand Alliance dimensions to manufacture. Only the most advance dimensions could do so. This meant that only a handful of dimensions could provide the parts to manufacture the Crossbow. As with the Viggen many advance dimensions would stop production of all other units and solely concentrate on Viggen and Crossbow production. Even with these measures there would always be a short supply of Crossbows. Fleets who did get them would fully attest to their effectiveness in battle.
