-Declassified report to Sky Marshal of Superior alliance
To: Sky Marshal Schmidt
From: Field Agent Murphy
As you are well aware a new faction has appeared in the ongoing dimensional cold war between us, the Golden Hemogeny, God Slave, The Corps, and the Zaibatsu. This faction is entirely alien in biology to the normal human physiological opponents we have faced. This new faction is called the Collective in their native language and the Swarm by our troopers. Their weapons of choice are bio-engineered mecha codenamed Tyrants. They are piloted as a collective by small fist sized “insects”. As seen on the third slide a Tyrant must be manipulated by at least several hundred pilots. Each individual insect is weak and is easily crushed underfoot but collectively the psychic energy each individual has at its core produces extremely strong combat potential. The pilots enter their craft thru exposed slits that lead into the core of the body. Once socketed into their neural interface the slits close tight and armored carapaces are closed on top. This arrangement is effective enough for deep sea pressured environment to space flight. It would seem that several hundred individuals trying to reach an agreement would be unwieldy in combat but as proven in battle every Tyrant unit is quick to respond.
The general structure of a Tyrant is a cross between: a praying mantis, a crab, a spider, a beetle and a firefly. All the deadly characteristics of these “bugs” are possessed by this unit. It can traverse any terrain, cling to any surface, act in water and fly. Even without the bio-morph or weapons the native weapons on every Tyrant make them very aggressive melee combatants. For armouring the carapace of this bio-weapon is tough as any metal or artificially constructed mecha. The carapace even at the softer joints is tough enough to withstand low yield explosives or anti-tank weapons. The main armoured shell protecting the delicate wings is known to be able to absorb high powered plasma rounds from anti-mecha cannons. If this was not enough collectively the many hundreds of pilots can pool their psychic energy together to erect a force field as strong as any such field encountered. The one glaring weakness in defenses is a lack of protection from concussive type attack (such as from explosives). The concussive shockwave is known to throw the pilots around inside the Tyrant. This leads to clumsy and delayed movements from Tyrant units, as the pilots scramble to reattach themselves to their interfaces. Worse yet is if individual pilots are killed by the impact of the shockwave their deaths can cause a psychic backlash which could trigger a chain reaction of explosions inside the core. The best bet is to keep Tyrants busy with energy weapons and then in a single salvo unleash as many concussive weapons in the frontal area as quickly as possible. This report will now go onto cover the various bio-morph and weapons a Tyrant unit can equip itself with.
Unlike a regular mecha Tyrants attach various organs and bio-enchancements to their body. Once attached the bio-morph cannot be removed so each Tyrant over time becomes very specialised in a specific role. Most likely the Collective “scientist” (or whatever equivalent they have) can produce new weapon and equipment to keep up with whatever forces they face.
