This massive mobile armour was the best mecha that Ares forces scientist could design. It was only made with one role in mind: complete area domination. It therefore was not required to fulfil all the minor roles and task that a Haybusa or Star Hornet were expected to cover. Designed around two massive engines this fighter was the fastest thing in the sky fielded in such large numbers. Able to move fast, carry extremely heavy weapons most commonly found on battleships, and absorb astounding levels of damage the Viggen was definitely a force to be reckoned with. Its only flaw was the lack of manuverability due to the mass distribution and inadequate vernier thrusters. Best described as a flying brick many enemy fliers could certainly out turn this beast but very few could hurt or survive a firefight with it.
The fixed armaments were some of the heaviset fielded on a Grand alliance mecha. Even with out its many weapons options the Viggen had the firepower of a medium battle cruiser. The extra large bore laser mounted in the head could punch out lesser capital ships in one blast never mind an opposing fighter. Backing these up were 4 Viggen class plasma cannons. This class of plasma weapon was a compromise between the raw destructive power of a capital ship killing cannon and a rapid firing smaller gun. Though a single blast was not strong enough to take down a capital ship by itself, a barrage of 4 seconds was enough to do so. With 4 Viggen class cannons firing at full tilt, a 30 second barrage was more then enough to wipe out small patrol fleets. Rounding out this destructive power was a small array of missile launchers. To tag an enemy a reliable 60 mm gatling was installed in the nose. For close in work 2 small beam sabers were stored in the palms.
The ENABLED equalizer form served to allow for the Viggen to go toe to toe with other mecha. The limbs were specially reinforced for greater strength; the Viggen was one of the Ares mecha, which could successfully engage in melee, attacks. Quick to transform from either mode the Viggen could adapt to situations quickly.
Rounding off the offensive ability of this unit was the ability to FTL jump twice. Though scientist are working on a suitably small FTL drive with multi jump ability the current Viggen FTL drive is adequate for most missions. This ability though limited allowed for Viggen to arrive as area domination units wherever they were needed.
Other then its horrible manuverability the other flaw was the production difficulties required to build the Viggen. Not able to be produced in excessively large numbers like the Star Hornet or the Hayabusa, the Viggen would be small in number. Though the effectiveness of this unit would more then make up for its small numbers.
