Rancho

Hike in Rancho San Antonio Park

March 30, 2014 9:30 to 12:30

This is one of the conditioning hikes in preparation for the 7th grade trip to Yosemite Valley. All 7th graders and families are welcome to attend.

The park has many trails with diverse terrain, and we will decide on the exact route on the morning of the hike (based on participants' preferences).

See the RED line on this map for my (Chris') suggested route. This route starts at the Ravensbury Gate (directions below) and heads west on the Rogue Valley Trail then up to the High Meadow Trail, and then down along the Wildcat Canyon Trail to Deer Hollow Farm, and then back to the gate to complete the loop. This route is not the easiest possible, covering about 4 miles and involving a bit of elevation gain. Given that it will be a week from the Yosemite trip, it should provide a timely challenge.

Directions: 280 north to Los Altos and exit on Magdalena Avenue. Turn left, going under the freeway, and then take the 3rd left on Ravensbury Avenue. Follow Ravensbury for about a mile, and then turn left on W. Loyola Drive, and left again on Berkshire. Park there (the entrance to Rancho is off of Ravensbury, but the nearest legal parking is on Berkshire). We can gather there at 9:30 and then walk to the gate (RS 09) together.

If you wish to add a bit more to your hike, you can drive to the main park entrance (280 to Foothill to Cristo Rey) and follow the signs to Deer Hollow then along the Rogue Valley Trail. Parking can be a challenge in the main lot on Sunday mornings.

Bring: Water bottle, snacks, and layered clothing appropriate for the day. Binoculars, if you have 'em.
